"Finishing a Loose Painting" VIDEO

Dear Artist,
Finishing a Loose Painting

In my previous BobBlast (#91-Stick with the Color Wheel) - I demonstrated the effectiveness of looking at a color wheel before you begin your painting. Later, many of you suggested I finish the darn thing and turn the abstract demo into a recognizable image!

So, that is what this week's BobBlast is all about! Make sure you watch the video to see the step-by-step!

To re-cap last week's lesson - Most color wheels help you decide which color combinations most likely will give you a pleasing look or a certain mood or feeling. Choose one of these suggested color combinations and put the matching paints + black and white on your palette. Now you are ready to go!

Last week's demo was about using my own Goof-Proof Color WheelThe combination I used was:
Dominant - Blue
Focal Point - Red
Spice Colors - Yellow and Violet

I began the painting abstractly with very loose shapes. You may recall I loosely brushed in the dominant color blue all over the surface. Next step - The color wheel arrow pointed to the focal point color red. I painted in the red focal point and finally added a small amount of the two spice colors (yellow and violet) around the single focal point.

So - now to finish the loose painting... watch the video! The paints were refreshed plus I added two more close colors of each. Example: Red/focal point - I added magenta and luminous opera. Close enough - I like choices when painting!

The finished painting turned out to be a farm landscape. My loose interpretation, using my Goof-Proof Color Wheel.

Most of my paintings begin this way - loose abstracts. So that's it! A quick and simple way to get started, no matter your subject, your style or your studio experience. Start Loose - It works for me!

Thank you for your interest, questions, comments and support!
